Headteacher's welcome

A very warm welcome to Elm Wood School one of the six schools that form the Gipsy Hill Federation of schools that are located in the boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark.

Our diversity is our strength and we take great pride in the fact that we serve a diverse and culturally rich community in a vibrant part of south east London.

We are an ambitious and caring 2-form entry school with one nursery class that accommodates both full and part time pupils.

We have high expectations of our children and support and encourage every child to reach their potential, to make outstanding progress, become independent learners and develop a love of learning that will continue into adult hood. Our enquiry based, inclusive curriculum enables our children to be excited, curious, stimulated and in awe of the learning opportunities it presents. Our curriculum is broad and balanced and we ensure that school provides our children with skills, concepts and knowledge that will be a rich foundation to prepare them for secondary school. Inclusion is at the heart of our federation and this means that we strive to remove barriers to children achieving.

We place great emphasis on our children’s emotional well-being and are constantly ensuring that our curriculum and practice reflects this. Our aim is, always, the pursuit of excellence so that we secure the very highest outcomes for all our pupils; and we do this by providing rich, child-centered learning environments coupled with exciting and ambitious learning opportunities which enable our children to flourish, excel and achieve excellent learning outcomes.

At Elm Wood, we have a staff of enthusiastic, dedicated and passionate professionals who bring a vast range of experience and skills to our school. Our staff ensure that our values, through our Elm Wood Promise: Perseverance and Resilience, Success and Excellence, Kindness and Respect are at the heart of our interactions and relationships with our entire school community. We share our federation's ethos and regard ourselves as being a curious, confident and creative community who are inclusive , visionary and collaborative.

The strong partnership we share with our Parent/Carer community is essential for our children’s achievements, their well-being and their happiness. We look forward to welcoming you to our school community.
